David Letterman Tells Oprah That Jay Leno is the Funniest Guy He's Ever Known
Posted on December 29, 2012
Oprah Winfrey interviews David Letterman for this Sunday's episode of Oprah's Next Chapter. Letterman generally doesn't do interviews, so it will be interesting to see what he has to say. Oprah says he discusses his battle with depression and his sex scandal. In this clip Letterman talks about his friend and longtime rival, Jay Leno. Oprah asked Jay if the feud started when Leno got the job hosting The Tonight Show after Johnny Carson retired. Letterman really wanted the gig. Letterman had this to say about Jay, "He's an unusual fellow. I've never met anyone quite like Jay. And I will say, and I'm happy to say, that I think he is the funniest guy I've ever known. Just flat out, if you go to see him do his nightclub act, just the funniest, the smartest, a wonderful observationist and very appealing as a comic. Therefore, the fact that he is also maybe the most insecure person I have ever known — I could never reconcile that."
To hear Letterman say that Leno is the funniest comic he knows is pretty shocking. But very interesting. The interview airs Sunday, January 6, 2013, on OWN at 9:00 pm Eastern/8:00 p.m. Central time. Take a look:
