Dolly Parton brought the house down Sunday at Glastonbury, as 100,000 people showed up to hear the country legend play an 80 minutes show which was packed with her many hits, including "9 to 5," "Jolene," "Islands in the Stream" and "Coat of Many Colors." Dolly was in full Dolly regalia, wearing a white, form-fitting rhinestone encrusted pantsuit which featured see through pant legs.Dolly had her blonde hair teased high with rhinestone sparkles and her long, red nails. Even her guitar was covered in rhinestones. It's not what one would normally think of as a Glastonbury Festival costume, but on Dolly it worked. Boy, did it work. Dolly at 68 is the consummate professional and had no time connecting with the very youthful crowd who sang and swayed along with the songs and hung on her every word.
Even the security team in front of the stage was doing choreographed dance moves to the catchy songs. Dolly, who has never played at Glastonbury, told the crowd: "Well, it is such an honor and such a privilege to be here. I've been waiting a lifetime for this, Glastonbury."
Of course, there is always someone who tries to spoil the fun with a bitchy comment. One British journalist who was watching the show live on British television tweeted that she thought Dolly was "miming" by which she meant lip syncing. But Stephen Fry blasted back saying there was no way Dolly mined. He explained on Twitter, "I think I know quite a lot about how TV is made. Why are people saying @DollyParton is miming? She's fooling me Believe me, that is not miming. If it appears not always to lip-sync that's an HD live processor issue. You see it with news reporters."
Dolly's rep also shot down the false allegations, telling the Mirror, "No. She sings live. Some people don't know an amazing singer when they hear one."
Dolly finished her set by singing her hit "I Will Always Love You." We love you too, Dolly. Her newest album, BlueSmoke debuted at #2 on the Billboard Country Chart and #6 on Billboard Top 200. Here she is singing "Jolene":
