Dominique Ansel's Cronut Bakery Closed Due to Mouse Infestation
Posted on April 4, 2014Dominique Ansel's bakery has been closed due to a mouse infestation by the Health Department. The closure comes after a customer uploaded a video to YouTube of a little mouse running across the floor. A Health Department spokesperson told Gothamist that the bakery was closed "because of a severe mouse infestation that requires professional pest control services."
A representative from the bakery told Gothamist that they believe the mouse came in from the outside where there is a greenhouse and a park. The doors are left open sometimes on nicer days and the mouse may have found its way inside. The bakery hope to reopen on Monday.
The Dominique Ansel Bakery also issued the following statement: "This is such sad news. Due to the video footage, the DOH came with three inspectors today... any hole larger than the tip of a ballpoint pen is considered a violation. We were asked to re-cement the entire basement, which won't allow us work. We should be reopened on Monday. don't think people realize the bigger ramifications of their actions and the harm it can bring to a small business. Our staff are heartbroken to have been such a target, but we will of course do our best to rise out strong."
NBC New York reports that bakery staff spent 7 hours cleaning the store and found only the one mouse. Here is the video of the bakery's mouse, which hopefully is the bakery's sole mouse:
