Fashion Designer L'Wren Scott Found Dead in Her Apartment
Posted on March 17, 2014Fashion designer, model and stylist L'Wren Scott was found dead this morning in her New York apartment by her assistant. She apparently committed suicide by hanging, but there was no note. Her designs were worn on red carpets around the world by celebrities, including Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Allison Williams and Christina Hendricks. She designed most of the looks for the Rolling Stones' 50th anniversary tour, which began in 2012 and is now playing in Australia. L'Wren was the longtime companion of Mick Jagger, who issued a statement that he is "completely shocked and devastated" by the news. Reports say there was no suicide note.
Ms. Scott was born Laura "Luann" Bambrough and was raised in Utah by a Mormon family. The 6' 3" beauty was discovered as a model by photographer Bruce Weber. She later became a stylist and then a fashion designer in her own right. Tributes to L'Wren have been pouring in from her many friends. Nicole Kidman's rep issued this statement, "Nicole and L'Wren were close friends for 25 years. Nicole is heartbroken and in shock right now and unable to say anything." Madonna told WWD, "This is a horrible and tragic loss. I'm so upset. I loved L'Wren's work and she was always so generous with me."
