Fitbit Launches Alta HR Wristband

Posted on March 9, 2017

Fitbit has announced its latest activity tracker. The new Fibit Alta HR device is the slimmest device yet from Fitbit. It is 25% slimmer than the Fitbit Charge 2. It features continuous heart rate tracking with PurePulse technology. It also includes exercise recognition and sleep tracking.

James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit, says in the announcement, "Alta HR and these powerful new sleep features demonstrate our continued focus on evolving our innovative technology to deliver deeper, more actionable insights to help our users improve their health. The miniaturization of our PurePulse heart rate technology opens up exciting opportunities for future generations of devices and new form factors. Our advances in sleep will provide millions of users around the globe accessibility to invaluable insights that previously could be obtained only through expensive lab tests."

Fitbit says the Alta HR features Sleep Stages which utilizes heart rate variability to estimate the amount of time you spend in light, deep and REM sleep. It also measures your time awake each night. Fitbit says the new device better measures your calorie burn during the day. You can see real-time heart zones and resting heart rate on the Fitbit app.

The new device will send reminders to move throughout the day. It also offers call, text and calendar notifications. Alta HR is available for pre-order from Fitbit.com for $149.95. It will be available at major retailers starting next month. Here is a review of the device from The Verge. Take a look:
