Gwendoline Christie Walks the Red Carpet at Star Wars: The Force Awakens Premiere

Posted on December 15, 2015

Gwendoline Christie looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Gwendoline, who has modeled for Vivienne Westwood and Giles Deacon, wore a spectacular custom two piece gown created for her specially by Oscar de la Renta head designer Peter Copping. Gwendonline plays Captain Phasma in the highly anticipated film, which hits theaters this Friday.

Gwendoline told Vogue magazine that she's been a huge fan of Copping since his days at Nina Ricci. She said she had to pluck up her courage to call him and ask him to make her a gown for the premiere (he was thrilled to be asked and said yes immediately).

Gwendoline is fabulous presence on the runway: she is 6' 3" without shoes and 6' 7" in her her custom designed slippers. She has nothing but praise for the way Copping dressed her figure saying, "Peter has negotiated my proportions in a way that is incredibly flattering and artistic. He's a genius; he appreciates the craft of dressing a woman's shape."

Copping himself said "I jumped at the chance to make a custom piece for Gwen." He did confide to Vogue that he has never seen one of the Star Wars films, explaining, "Growing up, I was more interested in black-and-white Bette Davis movies." Well, the Force is certainly with him now -- the dress is stunning. The white halter bodice is accented with a black velvet bow neckline. The skirt is form fitting at the hip, and is cut high in the front with a fishtail back to reveal oyster faille made from 10 yards of tulle.

Gwendoline accessorized her look with earrings and a Fred Leighton Ettore Sottsass ring.
