Hershey's Partners With 3D Systems to Develop 3D Chocolate and Candy Printers
Posted on January 17, 2014Hershey's is looking toward the future and has partnered with 3D Systems to develop 3D printers that can printer chocolate and non-chocolate edibles. The companies also plan to co-develop 3D printed chocolate and non-chocolate products. With a 3D chocolate printer consumers could print chocolates at home in a wide variety of different shapes and sizes.
3D Systems currently makes a variety of 3D printers, including consumer and professional models. No examples or target dates for 3D products were provided in the press release.
William Papa, Vice President and Chief Research and Development Officer, The Hershey Company, said in the announcement, "We believe that innovation is key to delivering relevant, compelling consumer experiences with our iconic brands. Whether it's creating a whole new form of candy or developing a new way to produce it, we embrace new technologies such as 3D printing as a way to keep moving our timeless confectionery treats into the future."
Engineers from the University of Exter developed the first 3D chocolate printer in 2011. You can see a video of it action here.
