Johnny Depp Stars in Dior Sauvage Fragrance Campaign

Posted on September 2, 2015

Johnny Depp is the face of the new Dior Sauvage fragrance campaign. Sauvage is a new men's fragrance from the luxury fashion brand. Depp plays a guitar and embarks on a sudden desert road trip in the short film directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino.

The new fragrance was developed by Dior's perfumer François Demachy. The top notes include Reggio di Calabria Bergamot and Ambroxan.

Demachy says, "To create Sauvage, I used man as my starting point. A strong and unmistakable masculinity. Like the image of a man who transcends time and fashion."

The short film begins with Depp playing his guitar. After playing his guitar for a short time, Depp says, "I have to get out of here." He then rages through the desert in a vintage black Dodge Charger. The car reminds us of the vehicle in Supernatural. Depp passes oil fields, a buzzard and a bison on the way. He stops his car by plowing through the desert sand. He then gets out of his car and grabs a shovel from the truck. He then buries his necklaces and beads in a hole in the desert. Depp says, "Something I can't see. I can feel it. It's magic."

The burying of his jewelry is meant to represent Depp "ridding himself of the superfluous in a ceremonial act." Dior says, "The film ends at sunset as he reveals his true face, an unapologetically masculine man, but in touch with his deepest emotions."

The short film features music by Ry Cooder. Take a look:
