Madonna Talks Donald Trump, Art and Expression With Harper's Bazaar

Posted on January 27, 2017

Madonna covers the February 2017 issue of Harper's Bazaar. She wears a Gucci gown with her snake bracelet, a Bulgari bracelet and a Tiffay bracelet in the cover photograph. She's also wearing a Loree Rodkin pinky ring and a Lynn Ban ring. We love the snake bracelet.

Madonna was seen recently at the Women's March on Washington. She has been criticized for her speech which contained expletives and a threat about "blowing up the White House." Madonna has defended herself saying she was speaking in metaphor. President Donald Trump himself called the speech "disgusting."

Madonna also criticizes Trump in the Harper's Bazaar interview by Roxane Gay. She talked about how depressing it was for her and her friends the night Donald Trump won the election.

She says, "I went to sleep, and since that night, I wake up every morning and it's like when you break up with somebody who has really broken your heart. You wake up and for a second you're just you, and then you go, 'Oh, the person I love more than anything has just broken my heart, and I'm devastated and I'm broken and I have nothing. I'm lost.' That's how I feel every morning. I wake up and I go, 'Wait a second. Donald Trump is the president. It's not a bad dream. It really happened.' It's like being dumped by a lover and also being stuck in a nightmare."

Madonna then talked about how she is astonished by "how quiet everybody is in my industry." She says this is because some people want to "maintain a neutral position so they can maintain their popularity."

Madonna also talked about staying motivated through art. She says, "Art keeps me alive. I've obviously been devastated or heartbroken all my life, since my mother's death. I've had so many challenges throughout my career, however successful people perceive me to be. The only way I've been able to survive the betrayal of lovers, family members, and society is to be able to create as an artist."

Madonna wears fashions from Alberta Ferretti, La Perla, Marc Jacobs, Gucci and more in the shoot. You can view the photographs from Madonna's cover shoot here on harpersbazaar.com. Here's a short behind the scenes video:
