The NFL is going to drop Roman numerals in 2016. 2016 will be the 50th Super Bowl game. The NFL has decided to call it Super Bowl 50 instead of Super Bowl L. "L" is the Roman numeral for fifty

CBS News reports that the NFL did not like the way the "L" looked so they went with Arabic numerals. NBC Sports reports that the committee hosting the 50th edition of the game also did not like the Roman numeral L in the logo.
