The British Guiana 1-Cent Magenta Stamp

Sotheby's will auction the British Guiana One-Cent Magenta stamp in a one-lot auction in New York City on June 17, 2014. Sotheby's calls the stamp the "Holy Grail" of stamp collecting. It is often referred to as the most valuable and the most famous stamp in the world.

The unique stamp, first issued in 1856, was discovered by a schoolboy in Demerara in 1873. The last time it was sold at auction was 34 years ago. Sotheby's expects the stamp to fetch between $10 million to $20 million at auction.
