Etch A Sketch Classic

Spin Master acquired the Etch A Sketch and Doodle Sketch from The Ohio Art Company earlier this year. The acquisition was announced in February. Spin Master says it plans to increase the distribution of the two brands.

Anton Rabie, Chair and Co-Chief Executive Officer, Spin Master Ltd., says in a statement, "We want to hear from inventors, creators and designers who love Etch A Sketch and Doodle Sketch. These toys have been popular for more than 50 years and we look forward to building on this foundation of fun and creativity."

The iconic Etch a Sketch was with The Ohio Art Company for over fifty years since it was invented in the late 1950s by Andre Cassagnes. Ohio Art launched the toy in 1960 for the holiday season. The popular toy sold over 600,000 units at $2.99 during its first year of sale according to Toy Tales. The Ohio Art Company now plans to invest in its metal lithography business and its manufacturing operations.

Spin Master's other acquisitions include Editrice Giochi SRL, Cardinal Games and Meccano.

Spin Master has also announced July 12th as Etch A Sketch Day. The classic version of the toy (pictured) can be found at Amazon.com. More information about the toy can be found at etchasketch.com.
