Posted on December 31, 2012

PetVilleTechCrunch reports that Zynga has shut down a number of its titles, including Petivlle, Mafia Wars 2, FishVille, Montopia, Treasure Isle and Vampire Wars. Zynga has also pulled some of its apps from app stores. Players using the games receive messages like this one:
Greetings PetVille players,

Thank you for supporting PetVille and for being a loyal player! We're sorry to inform you that PetVille will be shutting down on Dec 30, 2012. In place of PetVille, we encourage you to play other Zynga games like Castleville, Chefville, Farmville 2, Mafia Wars and Yoville.
The PetVille closing means the end of some virtual pets. TechCrunch reports that there are sad comments about the PetVille closing, including, "Please don't remove petville. I been playing for 4 yrs. and I'm going to miss my pet Jaime...why do you want cause depression for me and others. Why do you want to kill my pet?"

Zynga still has over 30 games left after the cuts and will be better able to focus on these existing games.
