10 Lynx Kittens Found in Colorado
Posted on June 28, 2009
10 lynx kittens were discovered this spring in Colorado. The little lynx kitty above is so precious. The discovery was happy news for biologists because the kittens are the first newborns discovered in Colorado since 2006.
Tanya Shenk, DOW lynx field researcher, says in a statement, "The discovery of kittens this year is extremely promising. The locations of the dens show that lynx are beginning to expand their ranges and are once again finding both food and habitat necessary for successful reproduction."
The Lynx is listed as threatened on the endangered species list.
Update: A release here from Colorado Parks and Wildlife says the lynx reintroduction plan has been a success. Researchers estimate that at least 141 lynx kittens were born in Colorado between 2003 and 2010.
