2017 Times Square New Year's Eve Ball and 17 Numerals Unveiled

The Times Square Alliance has unveiled the 2017 New Year's Eve Ball. This year's design is called the "Gift of Kindness" design. The number "17" was also recently officially delivered. It is used to complete the 2017 sign that stands atop One Times Square.

The ball is made up of 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles. It is a geodesic sphere that is 12 feet in diameter and weights nearly 12,000 pounds. The triangles are bolted to 672 LED modules which are attached to the aluminum frame of the ball.

The Ball is illuminated by 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs. Each LED module contains 48 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs. The colors include 12 red, 12 blue, 12 green, and 12 white. With these LED colors the ball can display a palette of more than 16 million colors.
