7-Eleven launches Vernors Ginger Ale Slurpee

7-Eleven has launched an unusual new Slurpee flavor. The Vernors Ginger Ale Slurpee is available only in Michigan. 200 Michigan stores are carrying the flavor. 7-Eleven says it is a hit in the Michigan stores. 7-Eleven calls the Slurpee its first regional beverage and does not mention any plans to expand it beyond Michigan at this time.

Vernors was was created in 1866 by James Vernor in a downtown Detroit pharmacy located on 233 Woodward Avenue. 7-Eleven says the legend is that Vernor was trying to replicate an Irish ginger-flavored ale when he was called to serve in the Civil War. The concoction aged in an oak barrel while Vernor was gone. The aged beverage became the recipe for Vernors Ginger Ale after Vernor returned from the war.
