Amazon Introduces $50 Fire Tablet
Posted on September 17, 2015
Amazon introduced a new Fire tablet today. The 7-inch tablet retails for $49.99. The new price puts the 7-inch tablet at a price lower than most no-name budget tablets. Amazon is also offering six of the new tablets for the price of five as part of the product launch. The Wi-Fi tablet has a 7-inch IPS display and is powered by a 1.3 Ghz quad-core processor. It has a 2 MP rear camera and a front-facing VGA camera. The tablet runs on the Fire OS 5 "Bellini" operating system, which is a modified version of Android.
It has 8 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128 GB by adding a microSD card. Amazon also offers unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken with a Fire device. Amazon also offers its Prime service free for a month with a Fire tablet purchase.
The tablet is currently available only in black. It weighs 11 ounces. Amazon says the battery life provides up to 7 hours of reading, surfing or video watching. It can be charged in about 6 hours using the micro-USB power adapter included in the box.
The new Fire tablet will likely be a big seller this holiday. The price is very affordable. During Black Friday last year some retailers offered budget tablets in the $40 to $50 price range. Those budget tablet deals won't be very attractive this year with the Amazon selling a $50 tablet. Amazon will start shipping the tablet on September 30th.
