Amazon Fire TV

Amazon has announced the launch of Amazon Fire TV. Amazon Fire TV is a small black box that streams content to your HDTV. It competes with devices like the Roku, Apple TV and Google Chromecast. The device has a quad-core processor, 2GB of memory, Dolby Digital Plus surround sound, Wi-FI, Ethernet connectivity, HDMI video out and voice search. Some of the services ready to work with Amazon Fire include Amazon instant video, Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Crackle, Vevo, iHeartRadio and Pandora. The device costs $99.

Amazon says Amazon Fire also includes a feature called ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction). Amazon says ASAP "predicts which movies and TV episodes you'll want to watch and buffers them for playback before you even hit play." Fire TV has parental controls through a feature called FreeTime. Parents can create profiles for each child and select the content they are allowed to watch.

Amazon also says Amazon Fire is great for gaming. An Amazon Fire game controller is sold separately and costs $39.99. Amazon says there are hundreds of games available for Amazon Fire, such as Minecraft Pocket Edition and Sev Zero, with many more in the pipeline.
