Apple and Samsung Both Reportedly Developing Watches

Two of today's leading gadget manufacturers believe a modern version of the wristwatch could be the next big thing. Bloomberg reports that Apple and Samsung are now in a race to develop advanced watches. These new watch designs could interact and receive information from a smartphone or operate independently and provide functions similar to smartphones.
Super thin watches, such as the Pebble, have already been designed so the technology to make a sleek, thin watch with multiple functions exists. There are big questions the marketplace has yet to answer, such as whether or not people will want to talk and take photographs using their wrist. If the watches work in tandem with a smartphone will people really want to have two devices on their person? Experts believe more businesses are expected to step in and offer wearable devices of their own.
NPD Group analyst Marshal Cohen told Bloomberg, "The race is on to redesign the mobile phone into something that you wear. We're going to see formidable competition coming from many different directions -- from device makers, accessory makers, even fashion designers."
It will be difficult to move all the features of a smartphone to a watch. The small display size is just part of the problem.
