Dolphin Baby and Mom Keo at Dolphin Quest Hawaii

A baby dolphin was born Monday, September 17, at Dolphin Quest Hawaii at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. It is the first baby for Keo, a 12-year-old dolphin mom. The baby dolphin's grandmother and aunt are also at the Dolphin Quest lagoon. The baby dolphin will be named after the critical 30 day care period.

Dr. Rae Stone, marine mammal veterinarian and one of two Dolphin Quest founders who were present at the birth, said in a statement, "The trust shared between Keo and her human Crew members throughout the birth of this beautiful baby was extraordinary. Keo clearly sought out and took comfort and reassurance from her human friends. And she willingly swam up to the dock to allow veterinarians to check the baby's heart rate with ultrasound during labor."

A video of the live birth underwater can be viewed on YouTube.
