Apple Watches at Best Buy

Best Buy has announced it will start carrying the Apple Watch on August 7. The retailer will the first national retailer to carry the watch other than Apple's own stores. Best Buy will also carry the smartwatch online.

Jason Bonfig, senior category officer at Best Buy, says in a statement, "The Apple Watch is a big addition to our stores and website, and we know our customers want it. We are excited to bring the Apple Watch to more consumers, especially with the holidays coming up."

About 100 Best Buy stores will carry Apple watches on August 7. Another 200 stores will start carrying them in time for holiday shopping. Best Buy will sell 16 different Apple Watch models, including Sport and Watch models. It will also carry about 50 different Apple Watch accessories. The Wall Street Journal reports that Best Buy will not carry the Apple Watch Edition. Only Apple Stores will be carrying the gold-cased luxury model that starts at $10,000.

It is unclear exactly how well the Apple Watch is doing or how big the demand is for smartwatches overall. The WSJ says Apple CEO Tim Cook has denied a report that suggested sales of the Apple Watch are slowing. Cook says the sales have exceeded expectations. The Apple Watch and smartwatches from Apple's competitors will likely be a hot gift item this holiday even if sales slow this summer.
