Chicago Cubs World Championship Ring Created by Jostens

Posted on April 15, 2017

The Chicago Cubs won the world series in 2016. It was a dramatic comeback victory for the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs were down 3-1 at one point in the series. They had not won a world series in over 100 years.

Jostens created the rings for the Cubs. The rings were presented to the players by 20 fans, serving as honorary "Championship Ring Bearers." The lucky fans were selected from more than 1,500 video nominations by family members, co-workers and friends in the offseason.

Chris Poitras, Jostens Division Vice President, College & Sports, says in a statement, "Jostens is truly honored to partner with the Chicago Cubs as the official jeweler and designer of this historic ring. We felt that we had a responsibility, not only to the Cubs organization, but to Cubs fans around the world, to create a once-in-a-lifetime ring. This iconic piece of jewelry uses intricate craftsmanship to tell the unforgettable story of the Cubs' World Series victory, which now takes its prominent place in the history of all professional sports."

The ring is made from 14-karat white gold. It features the Cubs bulls-eye logo, which was made using 33 red rubies that are surrounded by 72 round white diamonds, all within a circular perimeter made up of 46 blue sapphires. The bezel has 08 round white diamonds on all sides. One side of the ring features the player's name above the Cubs' "W." The other site features the year 2016 above the Wrigley Field façade and marquee, displaying the message "CUBS WIN!" A silhouette of the World Series trophy sits below the marquee. The Chicago Tribune reports that there is also a goat design on the ring as a nod to the famous curse and the Cubs players like it.
