D. C. Comics Destroys Wonder Woman: Fashion Disaster Fells Superhero
Posted on June 30, 2010
Well, they've really blown it this time. At the urgings of J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Changeling), iconic female superhero Wonder Woman is getting a makeover. She's going from Amazon to Psycho Chick From Hell, in the stroke of a pen.
The press release describes her outfit as "tough, elegant...a street-fighter's look which also incorporates elements of her classic design." It also says this is a Wonder Woman look designed for the 21st century.
Suppose men were not allowed to ruin the greatest female superhero of all time? Wouldn't that be great?
Newsflash: J. Michael Stracynzki wouldn't know great fashion if the ghost of Yves Saint Laurent himself appeared to him for nightly tutorials. In the drawing below, obtained by Nikki Finke at Deadline, Wonder Woman looks like a cross between Anna Nicole Smith and a cast member from Jersey Shore, with a little crack whore thrown in for good measure (note the crazed look on her face). Wonder Woman is not supposed to be "street," for Pete's sake. She's an Amazon. She fights for right, she's beautiful and she's not angry.
The New York Times reminds us that the last time some idiots tried to change Wonder Woman's costume in 1968, another feminist icon -- Gloria Steinem -- stepped in and put a stop to it. We need Gloria to raise her voice once again and put a stop to this madness. In the meantime, as Nikki Finke says -- FREE WONDER WOMAN!!
