FreshDirect has announced the launch of a mobile food delivery service called FoodKick. It will compete with existing grocery delivery services like Amazon Fresh, Peapod and Instacart.

FreshDirect says the service will deliver food, drinks and lifestyle essentials to customers in under an hour. It will offer curated food finds such as meal hacks, food and alcohol pairings in addition to fresh produce, pantry staples and more. FreshDirect will also offer items like meat, seafood and sushi created by an in-house culinary team.

FreshDirect co-founder and CEO Jason Ackerman says in a statement, "Great fresh food has always been the core of our business. FoodKick extends that passion to a growing consumer base, serving up exciting food solutions and tailored ideas every time a customer opens the app."

The service will first launch in New York and will serve customers in Brooklyn and Long Island City. The website for FoodKick can be found at foodkick.com. The app is currently available for the iPhone through the Apple App store.
