Gay marriage is now legal in New York state. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law Friday after the New York Senate voted in favor of the bill. Gay couples can begin marrying in the state of New York in 30 days, when the bill goes into effect. "With the world watching, the legislature, by a bipartisan vote, has said that all New Yorkers are equal under the law," said Governor Cuomo, who pushed for the passage of the bill.
Cuomo convinced four Republican state senators to cross the aisle and vote for the bill. There are many people celebrating this historic moment. This is also seen as a big political win for Governor Cuomo, who may have presidential aspirations for 2016. The AP reports:
