Gogoro Unveils Smartscooter at CES

Gogoro unveiled its upcoming Smartscooter at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show. The company also announced a battery swapping infrastructure for the scooter it calls the Gogoro Energy Network.

Horace Luke, co-founder and CEO of Gogoro, says in a statement, "The Smartscooter and Gogoro Energy Network will capture the hearts of the next generation and become a catalyst for more efficient, cleaner, and smarter energy choices in our cities."

TechCrunch reports that the company has raised $150 million over the past three years in order to build the scooter and the energy network. The network involves battery vending machines called GoStations (pictured below) where scooter riders can swap their depleted battery for a charged one. Gogoro will needs lots of these stations set-up in order for it to be useful to riders. Gogoro says it plans to go to market with the Smartscooter sometime later this year.
