Google Announces Google Home and Google Assistant

Posted on May 18, 2016

Google has announced a new tech gadget called Google Home. The new device will work with a virtual assistant called Google Assistant. Google Home is clearly a competitor to the Amazon Echo.

Google describes Google Home as a voice-activated device that allows you to get answers from Google, stream music and manage everyday tasks. Google says that with a voice command to the smart speaker you can ask Google Home to play a song, set a timer for the oven, check your flight, or turn on your lights.

Home is a white device with a customizable base that can be changed to match your house. The device has four little dots in Google colors on the top that contain LED lights. In this way it looks much different than Amazon's black Echo devices. It is no surprise that Google wants to compete with Echo as do many other tech companies. Echo has been a surprise hit for the online retail giant. TechCrunch reports there are reports Amazon may have already sold over 3 million Echo smart speakers.

Google Home will be released later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced. Google announced Google Home at a recent conference. Take a look:
