Google Close to Acquiring Like.com Visual Search Engine
Posted on August 15, 2010
TechCrunch reports that Google is in the final stages of acquiring Like.com, a visual search engine. The main purpose of Like is as a shopping search tool and shopping comparesite. If you see a Marc Jacobs shirt you like on Like.com, you can press the visual search button and Like.com will show you a bunch of similar shirts. It is not clear what Google plans to do with Like.com, but Google did recently redesign the way it displays its image search results. Google also allows user sto search for similar images in its image search, so they might be looking for a way to build on this technology by acquiring Like.com.
