Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin Separate After More Than 10 Years of Marriage

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced they are separating after more than 10 years of marriage. The couple issued the following joint statement on Goop.com:

It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.

The Goop entry is called a "conscious uncoupling," and it's the most emotional and somehow saddest joint separation announcement we've ever seen. This makes us wonder even more about that canceled Vanity Fair article that Graydon Carter ditched at the last minute. There have been rumors of infidelity on both sides for quite a while now. Whatever happened, it's really sad for their two children, Apple and Moses.

Update: The link to the statement on Goop has since been replaced with a lengthy article about "Conscious Uncoupling" by Dr. Habib Sadeghi and Dr. Sherry Sami that will walk you through the history of coupling and uncoupling since 50,000 BC and explains the uncoupling concept. The article actually says, "The idea of being married to one person for life, especially without some level of awareness of our unresolved emotional needs, is too much pressure for anyone."
