T.I., Hugh Jackman and LL Cool J perform at 2014 Tony Awards

The Tony Awards had lots of surprises last night, but the most amazing one was the rap performance from the musical Music Man. Hugh Jackman, LL Cool J and T.I did a rap version of "Music Man" while Questlove and the Roots provided the beat. This is the first time anyone has performed rap at the Tony Awards, and it was a great moment.

The collaboration was top secret and surprisingly did not leak before the show. MTV reports how it all went down. Hugh was on The Tonight Show a couple of years ago and performed Music Man's opening number and at the time thought it sounded like it had a rap beat. He asked Questlove and the Roots to come up with the beat and L.L. Cool J and T.I. agreed to help him out (Hugh had never rapped before and said they carried him through the performance). It turned out to be a highlight of the evening. Hugh said LL dubbed him with the moniker Biggie Tap Shoes, which is pretty funny. Take a look:
