Is Cate Blanchett Heading to Sherwood Forest?

We've been following the twists and turns of the production of Ridley Scott's new Robin Hood movie. First, Scott had to tell star Russell Crowe that he was too portly to play the Sherriff of Nottingham in the revisionist tale. Then Russell got Sienna Miller fired from the production -- she was Maid Marian. Now the British press is reporting that Oscar winner Cate Blanchett will step in to play Maid Marian.
After a series of setbacks ranging from the wrong kind of leaves on location (they were brown) to the wrong shape of the love interest (Sienna Miller was said to be too svelte), Ridley Scott's Nottingham appears close to getting back on track with the news that Cate Blanchett is in talks to play Maid Marian opposite Russell Crowe as Robin Hood.

The Daily Telegraph reports claims by Mark Strong, who has signed on to play the Sheriff of Nottingham's traditional henchman, Sir Guy of Gisbourne, that Blanchett was considering the Marian role. "She is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it," the actor said at last week's London Film Critics' Circle awards.
We think Cate would make a lovely Maid Marian, although we have our doubts about the entire project. This time around, the Sherriff is the hero. But we'll see how it all sorts out.
