Retailers continue to push holiday sales deeper into Thanksgiving. JCPenney has announced that it will open its store at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day to begin its Black Friday sales. This is three hours earlier than it opened its door to Black Friday shoppers in 2013.

The major retailers pushed the start of Black Friday sales into Thanksgiving Day last year and the trend this year is to open ever earlier on Thanksgiving. The average opening time for the major retailers last year was around 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. This year Macy's and Kohl's have already announced 6 p.m. opening times. JCPenney is going for one hour earlier than that. The retailer made the announcement in a tweet.

Last year JCPenney brought back its popular free snow globes offer with a free miniature Disney snow globes deal on Black Friday. The retailer has not yet announced if will offer free snow globes again this year. The globes were only available on Black Friday, not on Thanksgiving.

Most retailers have not yet released their Black Friday circulars. Black Friday falls on November 28th this year so they still have plenty of time to get them out. Shoppers like to have them well ahead of time so they can plan their Black Friday schedule. For many people that includes a combination of online shopping and a trip to the mall or a department store.
