One of the real bummers about the global recession has been the lack of over the top building projects in Dubai. But things must be looking up, because KOR Hotel Group has hired Miami architecture firm Oppenheim and Karl Lagerfeld to create a floating island featuring three luxury hotels and 150 high end residences. The man made island will exist about twenty kilometers off the coast of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

You'll notice in the artist's renderings that Karl has decreed that the trees will all be purple and the peacocks will all be white. It also appears that the residents will all be supermodels and businessmen, with a 3-1 female to male ratio. Also, there are lots of reflective surfaces to confirm how fabulous you look.
