Katy Perry Wears Comme des Garcons for Vogue May 2017 Cover

Posted on April 13, 2017

Singer Katy Perry covers the May 2017 issue of Vogue. She wears multiple looks by Comme des Garcons in the cover shoot photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. It is no coincide that Comme des Garcons will also be the theme for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's upcoming annual Costume Institute exhibition and Met Gala. Katy is a co-chair for the Gala this year.

Katy Perry has the most followers on Twitter. She will likely be the first Twitter user to reach 100 million followers. Vogue says she is leaving her "cutesy style" behind and going "androgynous, architectural and political." Politics would not be a change for Katy. She has not been shying away from politics with her support of past Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Katy talked about her political views and the need to stand up. She tells Vogue, “I don't think you have to shout it from the rooftops but I think you have to stand for something, and if you're not standing for anything, you're really just serving yourself, period, end of story." Some are calling this comment a dig against Taylor Swift but it sounds more like criticism of people who didn't vote at all.

Katy also talked about fashion and changing her look. She says, "Fashion is just a language. It's storytelling. I am so encouraged by the big morph in fashion that's happening at the moment. Everybody is shape-shifting, changing, adapting."

Katy also discussed her conservative upbringing with Vogue. She says it has caused her to miss references. She says, "Amy Grant was our Madonna. We knew about Madonna and Marilyn Manson in my family because we picketed their concerts." She also said her family had church twice a week and they didn't celebrate Halloween.
