Kohl's has announced it will open its doors at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day to kickoff its Black Friday sale. This is two hours earlier than in 2013. Macy's also announced previously that its in-store sales will begin at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Kohl's ceo Kevin Mansell said in the release, "Kohl's will be the most compelling shopping destination for the entire family this holiday season with our strong portfolio of sought-after national and private brands, our extensive online assortment and a deep list of exciting products that are new to Kohl’s this year."

Retailers have been slowly pushing Black Friday into Thanksgiving over the past few years. The trend now is for earlier opening times on Thanksgiving Day. Extended the sales period into Thanksgiving means retailers can expand sales or offered tiered sales. It also gets consumers thinking about buying for the holidays earlier and helps bricks-and-mortar stores compete with online stores.
