Posted on October 21, 2013

Kohl's announcement follows similar announcements by Macy's and J.C. Penney, see here and here. Most of the other major retailers, such as Target, Toys R Us and Walmart, already switched to the earlier schedule last year and will likely keep with this schedule for 2013. You want have any trouble finding places to shop should you to decide to shop after you finishing eating your Thanksgiving dinner.
Kohl's chief customer officer Michelle Glass says in the release, "Shopping over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend has become a much-anticipated tradition enjoyed with friends and family. As many customers are eager to get a jumpstart on their shopping, we are opening our stores at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day as a convenience to our customers who want to make Kohl's their first stop."
Kohl's says some of its holiday highlights this season will include a Dream Receipt program, where over 30,000 Kohl's customers will win their entire purchase for free. Virtual snapshots with Santa will also be available where customers take a photo against a green screen display and then select a holiday background with Santa. Kohl's also says it plans to use its Facebook account, facebook.com/kohls, to announce surprise sales.
