Long Island Mall Evacuated After Numerous Roof Leaks Detected

Posted on February 11, 2013

NBC New York reports that Smith Haven Mall in Long Island, New York has been evacuated due to roof leaks in at least twelve stores. The region received nearly three feet of snow from the big Nemo blizzard. There is concern the roof of the mall could collapse. LongIsland.com reports that the roof has partially collapsed in at least one place and there are leaks in 25 store roofs.

Smith Haven Mall posted a message on its Facebook page that says, "It turns out that some of you may be psychic? As a precaution due to leaks in the mall, we are closing Smith Haven Mall for the remainder of the day. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience."

Hopefully, they will end up being able to make repairs. We are glad everyone is safely out of the mall.
