Macy's Plans Some Thanksgiving Day Store Openings

Macy's logoThe holiday shopping season continues to creep into Thanksgiving. Macy's has been a holdout in opening store doors on Thanksgiving Day, but that will change this year at least in some cities. Last season there was a big shift with many of the big retailers opening on Thanksgiving with Black Friday offers. Previously, shoppers would queue outside stores early in the morning on Black Friday. Macy's appears to be joining this shift, at least in some locations.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that some Chicago area stores will be opening at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. There have also been reports that some New York City Macy's stores will open on Thanksgiving. WWD has confirmed the Macy's Herald Square will be open. It is not known if Macy's stores will open on Thanksgiving in any other states. Macy's has not yet made an official announcement confirming the openings. The opening times have leaked from Macy's store employees.

Earlier this month Consumerist reported that Macy's was polling employees about opening at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
