Matt Damon Gets Roasted, Recieves Lifetime Achievement Award
Posted on March 28, 2010
Matt Damon won a lifetime achievement award from American Cinemathique and because he's so young, his friends all showed up to thoroughly roast him at the event. Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Affleck, Greg Kinnear, Robin Williams, George Clooney, Clint Eastwood, Charlize Thereon and Jennifer Affleck all let Matt have it at the podium. The event will eventually air on ABC, but a lot of it is going to be censored. Marc Malkin reports:
Charlize Theron got into the blame game, faulting Damon for one of Will Smith's few failures... "In 2000 Matt and I starred in The Legend of Bagger Vance along with Will Smith, the only Will Smith movie that didn't make like a gagillion, million dollars," Theron said. "I reunited with Will in Hancock, which did great. So I guess it's you, Matt."USA Today reports Casey Affleck discussed Matt's megalomania that George Clooney sent in his tribute in a very special way.
And she didn't stop there. "That's not the only thing Matt and I have in common," Theron continued. "We're both Academy Awards winners. Of course, I won mine in a real category and Matt's was just for typing up [Ben] Affleck's thoughts."
Good Will Hunting also earned Damon and Affleck a screenwriting Oscar, though the then-struggling actors had only penned the movie to given themselves some juicy roles to play. Affleck's brother, Casey, who had a small role in the film too, joked that it was more evidence of Damon's megalomania.
Sighing repeatedly, Affleck noted: "This was the movie you co-wrote for yourself, uh ... to play a young man who is smarter than everyone, and tougher than everyone ... Even though he had a worse childhood than everyone ... Who also gets the girl ... and who also has highlights in his hair."
Clooney sent a video tribute, saying he was too busy getting a prostate exam to attend. He wore a hospital grown and an uncomfortable smile as he winced and shuddered his way through kind words, while a "doctor" just below camera went through with the check-up.
