CNN/Money reports that a mall app with maps to over 1,000 U.S. malls is proving to be a very popular app just ahead of Black Friday shopping. The app was created by Medl Mobile and can be found here on the iTune Apps Store for $2.99.
On Tuesday, after being named one of the "essential apps" for Black Friday, Mall Maps rose from 18th to 9th on the list of most popular paid reference apps on the iTunes store. That's six places ahead of the iPhone version of the Bible.

Medl Mobile, the company that developed Mall Maps, would not disclose how many apps have been sold, but co-founder David Swartz believes it could become one of the most popular apps on the iTunes Store as the holiday shopping season gets into full swing.

While Mall Maps is useful for avid mall-goers, "most people who are using the app are using it because they want to get in and out quickly as possible," Swartz said.
Mall maps can be found in stores and on mall websites but Black Friday shoppers are often in a hurry and it can be useful to plan a route in advance. Shoppers may also need to quickly revise a plan if a planned entrance or exit is too crowded. The mall maps app could also be a good survival strategy. Wired's "Survive Black Friday" story suggests planning your evacuation route in advance in case there is a dangerous shopper stampede on Friday.
