NetflixNetflix is branching out into original program. The movie rental and movie downloads company has bought the rights to David Fincher's House of Cards. The series will be streamed online through Netflix. The move by Netflix is a huge one because it turns Netflix into a source of original content, as opposed to just being a vendor for content that is also sold elswhere.

House of Cards is a political thriller that will star Kevin Spacey. It will be debut exclusively on Netflix in late 2012. Netflix has committed to a minimum of 26 episodes of the series. The pilot will be written by Beau Willimon. The film is based on the novel by Michael Dobbs and acclaimed BBC mini-series of the same name.
