Nitnendo 2DS price cut to $79

Nintendo has lowered the price of its Nintendo 2DS portable game system to $79.99. The $20 price cut brings the device down from $99.99. The new lower price goes into effect on May 20, 2016.

CNET notes that this is the second price cut for the 2DS. It was priced at $130 when it was first introduced in 2013 and lowered to $100 after its first price cut last year.

Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, says in the price cut announcement, "Nintendo 2DS is the best value available for a portable dedicated gaming system and is great for gaming on the go. The system has a library full of high-quality games for purchase, some in our Nintendo Selects category for less than $20 each, featuring Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Zelda."

Nintendo also announced some games come out later this year. They include Kirby: Planet Robobot, Style Savvy: Fashion Forward and Disney Magical World 2. The 2DS plays Nintendo 3DS games and most Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games in 2D.
