Nordstrom Announces Plans for Manhattan Flagship

Posted on June 28, 2012

Nordstrom has announced plans for a huge flagship store in Manhattan. The upscale retailer announced it has finalized an agreement with Extell Development Company to build Nordstrom's first full-line store in New York City. The new flagship store will open along Manhattan's 57th Street corridor at 225 West 57th Street, between Broadway and Seventh Avenue, in the Columbus Circle area of Manhattan.

The 7-story department store will comprise the base of a mixed-use, retail, hotel and high-rise residential tower still in the planning stages by Extell. The 285,000 square-foot store is expected to open in 2018. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg keynoted the Nordstrom flagship news conference.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said, "It makes perfect sense that Nordstrom - one of the premier names in retailing - would want a flagship store in New York, the world's premier city for retailing. This is very exciting news for New Yorkers and the millions of tourists who come to our city to shop each year, and this new addition to the West Side of Manhattan is another sign of the private sector's confidence in New York City."
