Atari has released images of its upcoming Ataribox console. The ribbed black console is raised in the back. It has a panel that is either wood or resembles wood. The Atari logo can be seen on the panel. The ribbed design and wood styled panel reference the Atari 2600 design.

The Verge reports that Atari wants to create something that appeals "to both old and new fans of Atari." They also says the Ataribox will have one HDMI ports, four USB ports and SD card support. Two different models will be released.

Atari said in its first announcement that the console will be PC based. Atari says specs and pricing will come later. It will be interesting to see if the controllers also reference the Atari 2600 joysticks.

Atari says, "We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, pricing, timing. We're not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we've opted to share things step by step as we bring this to life, and to listen closely to the Atari community feedback as we do so."
