Avocado Light from Isla Bonita

Isla Bonita, a Spanish food company, has announced the launch of an avocado that has less fat. The company is calling it the Avocado Light. It has 30% less fat than a regular avocado. Nutritionists say the fat is an avocado is the good kind of fat (monounsaturated fat), so technically you don't need less of it.

CBS News reports that the company says the product is natural and has been certified by the Spanish Heart Foundation. A Daily Mail story says it also turns brown slower. It is currently only available in Spain. There is a lower calorie Florida avocado sold in the U.S. called the SlimCado. CookingLight says the Slimcado is less creamy than the higher fat avocados you are probably use to eating. We don't like it when avocados are not creamy and have a watery taste.

Nutritionist Keri Glassman, MS, RD, CDN is skeptical of the lower fat avocado. She told Today, "This sounds like an awful idea to me! It reminds me of low-fat peanut butter, which I say is about as good as eating vitamin free vegetables! Foods should be eaten in their whole real form."
