The Boring Company Sold 20,000 Flamethrowers

Posted on February 1, 2018

The Boring Company quickly sold 20,000 flamethrowers. It is likely the most rapid pace for flamethrower sales in history. The flamethrowers came as a surprise with CEO Elon Musk introduced them using Instagram.

Musk demonstrated the flamethrower and wrote, "Don't do this. Also, I want to be clear that a flamethrower is a super terrible idea. Definitely don’t buy one. Unless you like fun."

The flamethrowers were sold for $500 each and shipped with a complimentary fire extinguisher. The order page now says "Flamethrower sales are now complete." The only other product the company sells is a hat. The company was originally created with the concept of creating a huge underground transportation system. CNN reports that the flamethrower sales will be used to help fund the company.

Here's Elon Musk with a flamethrower. He seems to be enjoying himself immensely:

Update: Here's an unboxing video of the unusual product.
