DJI Mini Drone Can be Controlled with Hand Gestures

Consumer drones keep getting more and more advanced. They have quickly become flying cameras capable of covering our every move if need be. DJI has announced a new mini drone called Spark. The drone can be controlled with hand gestures. It can be launched from the palm of your hand. It also has facial recognition technology called FaceAware. Wired says the features enable Spark to recognize you so you can then gesture it up overhead to take aerial photos of you and your friends.

Spark uses GPS and has sensors to avoid obstacles. The quadcopter can fly at speeds up to 31 mph and it can hover in place. It can record 1080p video and capture 12 MP stills with its camera. The camera has a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor. The video can be transmitted up to 1.2 miles (2 km) away. It gets up to 16 minutes of flight time on a fully charged battery.

Spark will ship in mid-June. It will cost $499. It will be available in several color options including white, red, green, blue and yellow. Take a look:
