Google Announces Google Home Mini and Home Max

Posted on October 4, 2017

Google has introduced two new smart speakers featuring Google Assistant. The speakers introduced today are called Google Mini and Google Max. They join Google's fist smart speaker, Google Home.

The small Mini has far-field microphones and projects 360 degree sound. Google says, "Mini makes the Google Assistant more accessible than ever at home. We designed it to fit naturally in any room. It's sleek and smooth, with no corners or edges, and about the size of a donut. Its fabric enclosure is durable, yet transparent enough to let through both light and sound. The LEDs under the fabric light up to show you when your Assistant hears you."

The Google Home Max is a premium speaker. It features dual 4.5-inch high-excursion woofers. Google says it is over twenty times as powerful as Google Home. It will also feature Smart Sound. Google says, "Smart Sound automatically adjusts for where you place Max in a room, so if you decide to move your speaker a few feet, it will dynamically tune itself within seconds."

The Google Home Mini will be available in Chalk, Charcoal and Coral color options. It will cost $49 and will arrive in stores on October 19. Retailers will include Best Buy, Target, Walmart and the Google Store. The Google Home Max will cost $399. It will be available for pre-order starting November 13. The shipping date for the Max has not yet been announced.
