Google Glass Finds New Life as Eyewear for Workers

Posted on July 18, 2017

Google essentially deleted Google Glass in 2016 after it failed to take off with the public in 2015. It seemed that was it for the smart eyewear but Google Glass continued as a product for workers called Glass Enterprise Edition. It is being used by workers in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics and other industries.

Engadget reports that Google's "moonshot" company Alphabet X has been supplying this version of the eyewear to US companies including GE, Boeing, DHL and AGCO. Glass has also been improved. It is lighter and more comfortable for long term use. The power and battery life have both been improved.

Alphabet X's Jay Kothari writes about "a new chapter for Glass" in a recent blog post. He says, "We've ... made improvements to the design and hardware so that it's lightweight and comfortable for long term wear. We've increased the power and battery life too."

Glass is not available for the public but it available to enterprise partners. A website for the new version of Glass can be found here. Here's a video showing the new Google Glass being used in a KONI warehouse facility.
