2012 may mark the return of the boy bands. The UK boy band One Direction, created by music mogul Simon Cowell, is rising in popularity. The band has signed a development project with Nickelodeon.

The group was welcomed like a team of Just Biebers last week at the Today Show, where they performed live to loud crowds. The group will also perform live at Nickelodeon's 2012 Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles on March 31.

The members of the boy band say they couldn't believe the huge turnout at the Today Show. They say they are having a great time so far in the U.S. Take a look:

A press release says 1D will make an appearance in the fifth season of iCarly and play themselves in the episode "iGot Jungle Worms."

Update: The Insider notes that One Direction was once an opener for Big Time Rush, a band that had its own Nickelodeon show.
